The Legacy of the Phantom GX...
With the release of the new Nike Phantom 6 this week, it’s goodbye for the GX name going forward… but the legacy of the GX era will live on.
Though it would be intuitively ridiculous to suggest the original Phantom GX will be remembered and revered just as highly as the original Hypervenom Phantom 1, we think that it has qualities that will make it a fondly missed boot from the 2020s.
The original GX came at a time where the Phantom GT wasn’t coming close to Nike’s other silos (even though we loved the GT)! The GX reimagined the design of the equally high performing Phantom Vision from 2019, but took a new approach to grip. Of course, we’re talking about Nike’s Gripknit technology.
The GX’s Gripknit upper is super soft, pliable and has and uniquely sticky texture… yet, the grip was well balanced and wasn’t nearly as aggressive as the adidas Predator lineup at the time. This is the kind of technology that is so typical of Nike’s commitment to innovation on their football boots.
It’s striking design, comfortable fit and the beautifully soft Gripknit makes these boots memorable for us, and it’s why we think these boots will be remembered and reminisced about for years to come.
We’ve got most sizes left in the SG-PRO variant ready for winter. Don’t miss your chance to cop a pair before they become extinct.
